Nursing is defined as both an art and a science; a heart and a mind. There lies a respect for human beings and an intuition for a patient’s requirements. This is assisted by the mind, in the form of continuous core learning. Due to the wide range of specialisms in the nursing process, each nurse has specific strengths, passions, and experience. Through the critical thinking ability of nurses, judgment is carried out to integrate objective data with subjective experience of a patient’s biological, physical and behavioral needs.
All nurses follow nursing processes which are a scientific method specially designed to offer the best care to the patient. Nurses identify a patient's health status and formulate a proper plan to meet their medical needs.
According to Roach (1993), who introduced the Five Cs (Compassion, Competence, Confidence, Conscience and Commitment), knowledge, skills and experience make the caring process unique.
